Everyday we see different places, different people, and different situations. It is their factors, similarities, or differences that change different settings. I have recently switched campuses from Flint to Owosso and was surprised by the similarities and differences they both offered. For this experiment, comparing campuses would be a perfect candidate. The norms, deviance, social movements, and social control of the campuses. Although, they are Baker colleges, they would be different based on their settings and people. For this reason, with Flint as a familiar setting and Owosso as a unfamiliar setting; their people, norms, groups, deviants, social control, and social movements of the campuses are both similar and different …show more content…
This was the first Baker college I have attended and had three trimesters before the schools changed into semesters. The school has very limited trees and grassy areas. All the building are grey and most of the campus is large parking lots. The buildings include vet tech center, technology center, arc, student center, class rooms, graduate center, and dorms. The setting is much more urban with many stores, fast-food, and gas stations. The people who attend here are students and facility. There are many more people here because it is known as the main campus. The fashions and fad are much more urban based. These people are here to attend classes, work on their degree, and working when they have breaks between classes. The norms of the campus are going to class, getting there on time, and multitasking. The people here are quiet and professional. They work in groups and they work alone, they as well become louder when they work together in groups. The formal social control of the campus would also be the professors and the guidelines that are included in the student handbook. The informal would be family, peer groups, and professors implying to do your best. There is also no collective behavior at this campus but there are many social movements. The social movements include many different clubs and groups. They hold many social events at this campus seem to be very …show more content…
Until i realized it, Flint hold many more social events and has more students than the Owosso campus. The way they dress were much different due to the campus settings. The most apparent thing would be that it was much easier joining clubs and groups at the Flint campus than here in Owosso. I would not have realized that until I switched from Flint to Owosso. Since they are both Baker campuses, the similarities are substantial. The atmosphere, the norms of the students, and the general social movements are all the same at each campus. The differences are the student's apperal, the different types of groups, the population of the two. The groups consisted of medical students here at Owosso, this is because they are most popular for their nursing and medical field here. In Flint, the groups consisted of not only medical students, but other students majoring in different fields. These similarities and differences exist because although they are the have the same Baker college sign, they are in different settings with different
