I know personally that my high school was very poor and education was not good compared to the other high schools, which made it hard for me to adjust to college and I have to work harder than most students to achieve good grades. I know that my scholarship is not my only responsibility in school and my athletic ability will not always get me through life. In the movie higher learning one of Malik friend (Fudge) asked him what he was going to school for and he responded because they want him to run track. His friend was disappointed because the real reason is to become knowledgeable and use his knowledge, a lot of times we get caught up in just trying to achieve academic excellence that we forget to absorb the knowledge. In chapter nine of our book it discusses the stress that discrimination puts on blacks, “People who are constantly treated unfairly tend to have more stress, which can lead to emotional, physical and behavioral problems.” Malik exemplifies a lot of out burst of rage throughout the film because he is constantly under attack from the university and his peers treating him differently than everyone else.
