The Food and Drug Administration is a Federal agency that regulates, tests, and approves medication and foods presented to the American Public. The FDA favors the food and drug industry on affairs like pricing, what drugs and food are approved, and the results of consumption despite known harmful results in some cases. The main concern of the FDA is to protect the American people just as any other Federal Agency. Its roots began in 1906 as Theodore Roosevelt founded it in order to help keep Americans healthy along with what they consume. At this time there was not an agency who took care of such matters like regulating what food and medicine that was sold to the general public. This was pointed out in a book name The Jungle by Upton Sinclair written in 1906. The Office of the Commissioner Office of Foods and Veterinary Medicine takes on the responsibility of food, nutrition, and public health safety goals. The Office of Global Regulatory Operations and Policy controls domestic and imported goods and maintain their safety while traveling. The Office of Medical Products and Tobacco advises the Commissioner of the FDA on nationwide tobacco product regulation as well as medical product sales. Lastly, The Office of Operations maintains the integrity of the labeling on food and drugs sold to the public. They also provide FDA background information and information to the public about drug safety with access to much more. The FDA’s job as a whole includes many tasks to ensure the public's safety. They are required to check the safety of our food as well as the additives and supplements added. They also make certain animal feed is safe and the circulation of animal-related drugs.
