When buying groceries, do you purchase organic or non-organic? In the U.S, seventy-eight percent of families buy at least some organic foods. Organic certified foods have strict standards to be considered organic. They must avoid synthetic chemical inputs and genetically modified seeds. Many foods are not as regulated and may contain harsh ingredients that your body can not naturally process. Should it be essential to us human beings to recognize what is being put in and on our foods? Or should we just be ignorant and just stick with eating non-organic foods just because the price is much cheaper? Should our lifestyles be like our ancestors? Eating your own crops, making your own food in the kitchen, and knowing what ingredients you’re eating. Rather than being confused on the ingredients list added to all your packaged food. Some people consider eliminating packaged food (that’s been already made) from their diet. Especially people that workout daily and keep track of what they eat. Should we all consider this? Well at least keep it organic. The nutritional value in organic foods differ from non-organic foods. In 2007, a study out of “Newcastle University in the United Kingdom,” reported that organic produce boasted up to forty percent higher levels of some nutrients including, vitamin C, zinc and iron, than its conventional counterparts. As a rule, the less amount of time produce travels, the fresher and more nutrient-rich it remains. We should think about our children. The common ingredient that is in non-organic food is high fructose corn syrup. It is added in almost all packaged food in the grocery stores and it has been linked to ADHD in kids and it worsens these symptoms. Wouldn’t we all want calm kids and not hyperactive kids? To avoid this ingredient, organic food eliminates this ingredient. It’s nice knowing, we can solve some issues switching to organic food.
