With every century education undergoes dramatic transformations that change and expand how cultures of people respond to learning. Just two hundred years ago education was something that only a select few received. Education was not seen as a necessary part of life because people were able to survive without it. Children would often grow up only completing a middle school education because work was more important than school. Now, in present day, survival is very much dependent on the education that a person receives. Without a minimum of a high school education, people are not able to get jobs that will provide enough money to pay for the high cost of living that exists today. are getting an education that will make them the most successful that they can be in life. An education like this obviously involves the core subjects; reading, writing, math, science, and history. All of these subjects combined create a successful student, but there is a few fundamental parts of learning that seems to be missing. Many people believe that these missing pieces are art, dance, drama, and music. When applied right many experts believe that these artistic subjects will enhance what is learned in the core subjects. For this reason it seems that they should be applied, but in many schools they still are not being incorporated in the curriculum. Art, dance, drama, and music are implemented as important parts of a student’s education because they encourage creativity and aid in the understanding of other subjects, they are not applied because many teachers are not trained for this kind of teaching and many people do not see the importance of art in education, and I believe that they should be a part of every student’s education because of the impact that they make on …show more content…
Tuition fees for art schools is considerable higher than that of other trade schools. It also takes a lot of money for the government to fund programs. This causes many citizens and experts to doubt whether or not the arts are a necessary part of education. Thomas Hatfield realized that not enough importance was being put on arts education when he reviewed arts education. “We know more about projects, head counts, techniques, and per capita equations than we do about factors of effective arts learning and schooling” (Hatfield). All of the focus in education right now is on getting the best test scores, and not on creating a generation of capable people who are ready to go out into the world. With all of the attention on tests such as the ACT the focus is taken off the students and the kind of education that they really require to be successful. Without people who are just as dedicated on making sure that arts education becomes an important factor everyone will go on with their lives thinking that the arts are not important because they are not implemented in schools. While efforts have been made to improve arts education, it is still not available to many students. According to Erik W.
