Today I am exploring the Ocean, here is the information that I have gathered so far. The Ocean covers over 70% of the Earth’s surface, it holds about 320 million cubic miles of water, which is over 97% of Earth’s water supply. The Temperature of the ocean varies from top to bottom. The upper layer which is about 200ft down is warmer that the lower part , the thermocline, because the top gets warmed by the sun. The temperature of the water can affect the productivity of organisms living in it. The Ocean contains 99% of the the living space on Earth, from the smallest single-cell organisms, to the planet's largest animal, the blue whale. There are many plants in the ocean. Including: Coral reefs, Sea Anemone, and sea grass. Not many plants can survive in deep places in the ocean, they can survive as far a the sun’s rays support photosynthesis. …show more content…
There are many primary consumers in the ocean including; zooplankton, small fish, and seaweed. Some of the secondary consumers are fish, dolphins, whales, and other species that eat zooplankton. Some of the top predators in the Ocean are sharks, killer whales, and leopard seals, which eat both primary and secondary consumers. The Pacific Ocean is the largest Oceans. It covers 30% of the Earth’s surface, it is located at 8.9° S, 124.6° W. The Atlantic, Arctic, Indian, and Southern are the other 4 Major Oceans of the World. The Atlantic ocean is the second largest ocean in the World. Greenland, The World’s largest island, is located in the Atlantic ocean. Today in Mr. Andersons class we talked about the Ocean Floor, the students learned that it took us many years to study the Ocean floor because of its deepness. Once Sonar was developed we were able to study the ocean floor, in class students took the time to watch a video about the subject. The video also mentioned that we know more about the moon and space than we know about the ocean floor because we have not explored it. During this time Mr. Anderson also emphasized on things from the video that should be written down, such as that 70 percent of the ocean is covered by water and only a small amount is drinkable. Salt and minerals are brought in to the ocean by the runoff that if created from rain, Benthos are ocean organisms that live on…

Almost anything, including dissolved minerals from the earth’s crust, can be found in seawater. About 97 percent of earth’s water is in the ocean. The most important components of seawater that influence life forms are salinity, temperature, dissolved gases (mostly oxygen and carbon dioxide), nutrients, and pH. Scientists estimate that the ocean holds enough water to fill 352,670,000,000,000,000,000 gallon sized milk containers! Rainfall along the equator’s rainforests create a significantly more diluted ocean than what we once previously envisioned. I believe that the ocean doesn’t freeze…

The Atlantic Ocean is the second largest ocean out of the five oceans and stretches east of North and South America to west of Europe and Asia. Its climate consists of ocean currents, which are dependent on the uneven heating of the Earth’s surface and continents/landmasses nearby. Ocean currents transport heat energy within the biosphere, with surface ocean currents warming or cooling the air above them, affecting the land nearby. Surface water is affected by wind currents, while deep ocean water undergoes upwelling, which is caused by the density of water. Abiotic factors which influence the Atlantic Ocean include the light levels, temperature, salinity, density and water movement, and nutrients.…
