In July 2012, the United Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of The Affordable Health Care Act into law. The implementation of this law will provide coverage for many Americans who previously were unable to obtain insurance and or access to health care. This paper will look at the opportunities provided to healthcare providers and organizations in applying the new model of health care service that emphasizes disease prevention and management, and quality of care versus quantity. Reviewing the current research literature, the paper will examine the roles healthcare organization will play in providing quality of care, seeing from the viewpoint of the patients, attracting a new pool of patients and providing additional services to those now covered under the act, particularly programs to service the home care, rehabilitation and respiratory services. One of the provisions of The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) will be creating payment based on health care quality. Medicare. Gov. discussed the of creation of Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) that offer incentives to physicians and other providers to work together in providing a more coordinated care to patients. This is a provision aimed at improving quality. In this system reimbursement will be a reflection of providers’ performance in adherence to certain care processes, the scores obtained from patient satisfaction surveys and patient outcomes.
