The first kind is a person who looks on the bright side of everything and never admits something bad is going to happen. The Second is the complete opposite which is always thinking something is going to go wrong and that nothing will go right. The final kind is a mix of the two where they look on the bright side but they also see the potential for disaster and can see the calculated risk. The Open Boat by Stephen Crane is a great representation of the realism unit and for the most part it is a factual story. In this story there are four men in a dingy after their boat sank in the ocean. These four men are stranded at sea with nothing but themselves in a dingy, they take turns on trying to navigate to the shore. In this novel you see all of the types of people the optimist is the cook, the realist is the oiler and the pessimist is the captain. Once they reach to where they can see shore they realize to tide is too high for them to take the dingy in safely. So they make the ultimate decision to stay out in the ocean for a while longer, they realize that they need to get to shore so they risk it all and head for shore. In the story The Open Boat you saw all the different types of personalities interact and with that you can see the stark differences between all of them. With this unit we need to realize to address the dangers and calculate the actual risks involved in doing something before we do it. For the Realism unit I felt the song “Reality” by Kenny Chesney in 2011 the chorus of this song is “Somehow to escape/Reality, yeah, sometimes life/Ain 't all that it 's cracked up to be/So let 's take a chance and live this fantasy” With this song Kenny is basically saying that although life is a great thing there will be obstacles you will encounter that makes it really hard to move on from but to just keep passing on and keep living a great life. The song “Reality” by Kenny Chesney is a great representation about the realism unit because of how well it explains the hardships and the process to move on. Throughout this unit we read many realistic novels which were based on story lines we could encounter in our real life. With these stories we think about he we would react in the situation if we were in it
