The modern day environmental movement in the United States began in the in the 1960s and 1970s. This movement was originally focused on a few prominent environmental issues and disasters. Environmentalism evolved to become a multifaceted movement in the United States.
Movements for the environment are on going for example, PETA, Those out to stop Whale Hunters and also a major movement, making mainstream media is The protest of the North Dakota Pipeline. These movements spring up from individuals that are vested in the interest and continuation of animal life and rights as well as those conscious about the human footprint on the earth, such and water contamination as well as deforestation and other form of abuse towards the world which is inhabited by human beings. Environmentalist spread awareness that is recognized by the world, specifically the President of the United States. President Barack Obama has done these things as follows for the environment Established the largest marine reserve in the world, Rejected Keystone XL oil pipeline, Established the largest ocean sanctuary on the planet, Raised fuel-efficiency standards, Unveiled the Clean Power Plan. Environmentalist and their efforts whether it be against direct harm to the planet, its ecosystem, or the organism that inhabit the earth. The World has gained much from their contributions.
