On November 8, 2016, the people of the United States of America will vote on who they want to be the president for the next four years. The top two representatives for the Democratic Party are Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton. Because these two associate with the same party, their opinions resemble, but their ideas for several issues such as minimum wage, health care, and college affordability, differ.
An issue that has been discussed about a fair amount recently is federal minimum wage. Minimum wage is the least amount of money that employers are required to pay their employees an hour for their labor. Currently in the United States, the federal minimum wage is $7.25 (Lunt). Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton, if elected for presidency, have their own plans to raise the federal minimum wage. Bernie Sanders thinks that the current minimum wage is starvation pay, and believes that “in the year 2015, no one who works 40 hours a week should be living in poverty”. Evidence of his opinion, appears in his plan to raise the federal minimum wage in the United States to $15.00 by the year 2020 (Income and Wealth Inequality). Hillary Clinton believes that this country is long overdue to raise minimum wage and if she becomes president, she plans to raise it to $12.00 an hour (A plan to raise American incomes). Sanders and Clinton each plan to raise the minimum wage, but an extra $3.00 an hour would make a distinct difference on a final paycheck.
