Robert Sobukwe once said, “There is only one race, the human race(Azquote).” Social stratification in places, such as Mexico and other South American countries it is clear that some places and people are wealthier than the majority who are not. Mexico’s history proves that social stratification remains persistent through generations. People of “mixed race” are considered more valuable than those who have common hispanic of latino characteristics. Mexico’s past has produced a racial hierarchy that consists of the superior and the inferior. Color, backgrounds, and lifestyles is something we all have, but some better than others.…
Mexicans were of lower class due to economic issues. “After 1910, in fact, almost one-eighth of Mexico’s population migrated to the, United States as a result of the push and pull of economic necessity. Southwest agri-businessmen “imported” Mexican workers to fill the need for cheap labor, and this influx signaled the beginning of even greater Anglo manipulation of Mexican settlement or colonias” (Acuna). Mexico economic status was bad and people needed money and because most people needed money the Americans would take advantage. Being part of the lower class played a big part in why Mexicans would go to America and work for very low wages.…
Aside from the cost of slaves, also needed to run a plantation were cattle, servants, goods, and supplies for building dozens of structures, not to mention purchasing the land itself. Most plantations were controlled by wealthy families who owned thousands of acres and slaves. In this we see the beginning of capitalism. The average citizen may not have directly benefited from the sugar industry as the upper class did. This suggests that the lower class may not have had any influence on the sugar industry as it was controlled by the upper class, and was an expensive commodity (at least until prices dropped as production increased).…
Although some individuals had more wealth and power than other, there was hope for each person that they could achieve greatness no matter where their beginnings were. However, unlike the North, the South was not that inviting for immigrants to work the plantation. The social structure in the South were set in a hierarchy where wealthy plantation owners who owned large plantation were in the highest in the social class and run the economy. The others were farmers who owned small farms and the last were the enslaved African peoples. Because the wealthy were always looking for ways to earn more money, there were not much opportunity for many individuals to start a job and a living in the South.…
Peasants who generally farmed to earn a living had some freedom despite being tied to a Lord. They generally could decide when they wanted to work, and could depend on other families to help them, as it was common for families to share a plot of land. Conversely the proletariats were restricted in the sense that their working hours were strictly controlled by the owners of production. Where the peasants could utilize their craft skills, the proletariats could not, and had to give them up in exchange for new work. The peasants owned some of their craft such as the spinning wheel whereas the proletariats were entirely dependent on the industry ( Marx and Engels 45) The similarities present between these two classes was the fact that both answered and served the elite.…
The order of society is just another way to say their social class. During the Gilded Age, you were either in the lower class or in the higher class. There was usually no in between. The rich were really rich and the poor were really poor. The people running the corrupt companies, the people who were born into wealth, and the people who scammed other for money were in the high class; People like Jurgis and his family, who are immigrants that came to America hoping for a better life, usually got the worse end of the deal and were a part of the lower class.…
The New Deal solved many problems in economy and industrial. However, The New Deal not ended the depression which thought should be the main goal of New deal (the Depression was only ended after the mobilization of U.S in WWII). (Sheflin, New Deal). On the other sides, some people, especially Africans, Mexicans who working in ranches or lived in the countryside still suffered from lower wages, food, clothes… they struggled and some of them tried to get together to strike in order to get a better wage. The cost of living during that time was expensive, they know the power of the union is much larger than individual (RAP, 177).…
Social, political and economic rights varied in Mexicans because of class structure. The ranchero elite was considered the highest class. The ranchero elite of California were wealthy Mexican men who owned large grants of land. Mexican elite were respected by European Americans because of their Spanish history. Intermarriage, which rarely occurred between European Americans and other minorities, was common between the daughters of the ranchero elite and wealthy European Americans.…
But because they want to use the lower class nation they increase the cheap labor rate. Cheap labor is usually found in non-western countries. The exploitation of cheap labor has created a poor and dependent workforce where most people of color work. The profit accrues to the wealthy owners, who are mostly white, resulting in a racially divided world. (Andersen 208) Those rich countries can’t use their own population for their production because the labor is heavily expensive in their country and the economy will drop down.…
The main problem they face is their immigrant status, many people think that most Mexican are immigrant. On the contrary, Mexican American that born in U.S is double the amount of people immigrate from Mexico. Furthermore, most of U.S land was bought from Mexican government after the “Mexican American War”. This mean that they were either forced out of their homeland and stayed behind and lose most of their wealth. Furthermore, Mexican is fully capable of having a high paying job with specialize training and degrees, the stereotype that most of them are construction worker or gardener is not supported.…
