Our society nowadays is strongly influenced by the media and the images it portrays. The media provides unhealthy messages concerning body sizes, gender attractiveness, and weight control that make women view themselves in a very negative way. The media and how it affects our society has changed tremendously over the past few decades. Our population of young-adults who spend a lot of their time in front of the TV or on social media continues to increase, creating a superficial view of themselves and who they should be. Media these days has set standards regarding who is considered attractive and fashionable. In magazines, and online advertisements, a size zero seems to be the “ideal” figure for a woman in order to be considered attractive in the society. Media promotes the idea that in order to be successful and attractive you have to be skinny and this has caused many young people to become obsessed with their weight which leads to eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa and bulimia.
Many people suffer from eating disorder and they may not be aware the way they eat or not eat at all could be classify as eating disorder. Amongst the many disorder, Anorexia an Bulimia are the most common one. Anorexia is a condition when a person refuses to eat, and forces him or herself to vomit any food that he or she has eaten. In other words, the person staves themselves to achieve their ideal body. Bulimia involves binging on foods and causing the person to vomit. People struggling…
