Indoctrination is “To teach people to accept a system of beliefs (thoughts) without questioning” (Say-Mean-Matter). Stalin used indoctrination in schools and universities. “Under Stalin, the government controlled all education from nursery school through the universities. School children learned virtues of the communist party. College professors and students who questioned the communist party’s interpretations of history risked losing their jobs and faced imprisonment” (Modern World History 443). Schools were then to teach children to love Stalin. Hitler did a very similar thing but instead he forced all young people into his Hitler’s Youth groups. “In the classroom and in the Hitler Youth, instruction aimed to produce race-conscious, obedient, self-sacrificing Germans who would be willing to die for Führer and Fatherland. Stalin was economically different because he had a Five-Year Plan which was to improve transportation, farm output, all businesses that were owned by the government were distributed, and it was also supposed to command economy. The results of this Five-Year Plan were that the “Industry and transportation had high production goals… pushed workers… bonus for success… punishment for failure” (Notes). Stalin faced a problem when civilians were forced into agriculture they did not like the collectables and resisted in various ways. Hitler was different economically since Germany had fallen behind because of the Treaty of Versailles and they had fallen behind on reparation payments they had a weak economy. They printed more money which caused inflation and the US got involved “US helped (to bring) Germany’s inflation under control” (Notes). Then Hitler took action against Jews; he viewed Jews as a separate race not a religion. The two dictators had much economic troubles during their time. All things considered, Stalin and Hitler have their various similarities and differences. Dictators rose to power because of the Treaty of Versailles and the hardships that were put upon the counties. The people needed someone to put faith in them to help them thrive again.
