WORKER PARTICIPATION IN HAZARD CONTROL
Management will actively encourage worker participation in the identification, assessment and control of hazards.
The Alpine Workplace Health and Safety Committee will continuously review the hazard registry and ensure hazard assessment and control methods are up-to-date and in compliance with applicable laws and regulations
IMPLEMENTION OF SELECTED CONTROLS
Management will be responsible for ensuring that all controls are implemented based on the identified hierarchy. The President/CEO is committed to providing financial, human, and organizational resources needed for the effective implementation of this program and to create and maintain the framework and processes. Site superintendents and Foremen will ensure that all controls for identified hazards are being implemented at various operational levels by frontline workers. a. Deactivation of an engineering control may result in severe illness, injury or death.
b. Employees that deactivate an engineering control without proper authorization may face suspension or immediate termination.
c. Supervisors, Managers and designated representatives that authorize the de-activation or removal of engineering controls will be held accountable for any resulting incident or injury. Administrative Controls
a. It is the responsibilities of all employees to comply with all administrative controls.
b. Supervisors and managers will ensure that all workers are aware of administrative controls and that workers are encouraged to comply with them.
c. Every Supervisor, Manager, designated representative or employee that observes a failure to comply with administrative controls will take immediate action to:
i. Ensure immediate compliance ii. Report the details of the non-compliance through the appropriate channels
WORKER TRAINING IN USE, CARE AND MAINTENANCE OF PPE
a. PPE will be maintained in a condition that ensures it is effective in protecting the worker from the identified hazard. b. Workers will be trained in the proper use, care and maintenance of the PPE that is required for proper job performance. Use of PPE controls will be enforced: a. Supervisors and managers will comply with all PPE control provisions and must encourage workers to also comply. b. Employees, contractors, visitors, stakeholders, and every one on an Alpine site must comply with all PPE control provisions for the site location. c. Every supervisor or management representative that witnesses a failure to comply with PPE controls must take immediate action to: i. Ensure immediate compliance ii. Report the details of the non-compliance through the appropriate channels PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE The Alpine Preventative Maintenance Policy (PMP-01) and equipment maintenance schedule has been developed to ensure that hazards caused by the breakdown of equipment, tools, and machinery are proactively avoided. The PMP-01 and the maintenance schedule are based on the manufacturer’s recommendations, industry standards, past incidents, and data from company hazard assessments. All Alpine employees are required to inspect their tools and equipment prior and after use. Defective tools or equipment must be taken out of service (discarded or sent for repair). COMMUNICATE THE HAZARDS AND FOLLOW THE CONTROLS All affected Alpine employees, contractors and stakeholders will be made aware of and understand the hazards and follow/use the controls. The methods used to communicate the information to these individuals will include: Worker orientation/training sessions. Worker mentorship. Safety bulletin boards on construction sites. Discussing both the hazards and the controls during safety meetings. Using regular internal communication channels (e.g. newsletters, intranet forums).
