Three sisters, Minerva, Patria, and Maria began a revolution against the powerful Trujillo in the Dominican Republic. In the book In the Time of Butterflies by Julia Alvarez, three sisters become revolutionaries during the brutal regime of Trujillo in the mid 20th century to obtain freedom for the country. This correlates with the French revolution because the revolutionaries want to gain their freedom from the opposing tyranny. Social change happens when the people are triggered by a catalyst which results in change into an upcoming revolution. John locke is an enlightenment thinker and thought that all people were born with certain rights. Such as a right to life, freedom, and to acquire one’s own property. Certain rights are suppose to keep a society from rebelling against the government. John locke’s idea was that everyone should have a chance to gain their natural rights from the government. John Locke also claimed that if a government was using too much power, the people could rebel against the government and be replaced. John Locke also mentioned that it was a duty people had to rebel against an abusive government so people can gain their natural rights back.
