National identity is what people identify as on a national level of any given country. Each country in the European Union has one on the individual level. The lack of having one as the European Union has become a factor in questioning what the purpose is of the union all these countries have with each other. Building a national identity can help to unify people, let alone countries, by giving them a purpose or a reason to be unified.
