When we have the top 1% who have almost half of the wealth in this country is so crazy. We are taught in schools how to be proper and how to be polite because that is how you treat people. We are taught that there are stereotypes associated with class. If you are from a lower class you don’t deserve as much respect as someone of an upper class. This reminds me of a book called Privilege by Shamus Rahman Khan and it talks about high school students at an elite school and how they aren’t taught about the education and the school learning but how to be “at ease” when they are with higher class people. This is exactly what shouldn’t be happening in school. These teachers are teaching the kids that they need to act a certain way when they come in conact with people who are of an upper class and how they should act around other people. Why is it the teacher’s job to say that these kids need to act a certain way? There is also a movie called “People like Us: Social Class in America” and it talks about the WASP people which is high-status and influential White Americans of English Protestant ancestry. WASP applies to a group believed to control disproportionate social, political, and financial power in the United States. In this movie the people want to be like the WASPs because they have the most prestige and the most money and they all have these stereotypes of what the WASP people do with their daily life. This is a huge issue because everyone is always trying to move up because they think that the stereotypes of their certain classes are not good
