Ronald lost his wife and only child in an accident caused by a drunk driver. At some point while Chris was visiting with Franz, Franz began thinking about how his family would be finished since he was the only child in his family and also since he had lost his only child. He asked Chris if he could adopt him as his grandson, especially since he grew very fond of him and Chris, however, only left him with one answer which was "we 'll talk about this when I get back from Alaska, Ron.
