Wisdom is a crucial aspect in Islamic societies, which can be seen in The Arabian Nights. Each character that excels in the stories of The Arabian Nights is due to their wisdom. Another scenario in the story "The City of Brass" demonstrates this. When Musa group tried to enter the city of brass some perished. This was from them falling to their deaths from the gates of the city. This could have been avoidable if a wise individual were to climb the gate. This was the case of the wise old man Abed al Samad who did not perish, “I saw them lying there dead and I stopped myself from following them.”(Pg.536). An individual may be weak or powerless against their foe, but in the Arabian nights that does not make him the prey. Such can be seen in the story of “The Fisherman and the Demon”, which is centered on the fisherman and the demon. The fisherman who is powerless against the demon seems to be at the mercy of the genie. The genie itself possesses all sorts of destructive powers. What enables him to survive is the wisdom that a human being has over the genie. The fisherman tricks the genie to be sealed in the jar again and is sparred from the wrath of the genie, “Fisherman, if you open the jar, I will reward you and make you rich.”(Pg.36).
