Any act against the restraints they faced would be considered treason and would result in death or torture. A primary example in today’s world would be US and Russian imperialism in Syria. Countries like Russia utilized military force to extend their power by bombing parts of Syria. People may claim that the Russians are using such force in order to attack IS (ISIS or ISIL), but many complain (including the American people) that Russia are doing the complete opposite and are killing off innocent civilians. “‘American officials said Russian warplanes and helicopter gunships had dropped bombs north of the central city of Homs, where there are few, if any, militants of the Islamic State, also known as ISIS or ISIL.’” A common theme surrounding the idea of imperialism is hypocrisy as portrayed in Heart of Darkness with Dr. Kurtz, who was supposed to bring peace in Congo, but made the natives suffer for his own good. As the US were busy pointing their fingers at Russia and their imperialistic policies, Western media were also busy hiding the United States’ imperialistic ways. For example, Western media would not mention a US bombing on a Syrian hospital that killed innocent civilians or how the US were “involved in the brutal siege of the country
