Most of the kids probably weren’t even allowed to leave their house, due to fear of being taken away from their families. By 1943, Gizela was exposed, and was deported to Auschwitz (“Theodora”). Worried, Ljudevit travelled to several different cities, only to find out, she died from intestinal illness, shortly after her arrival at Auschwitz (“Theodora”). Most people at Ludbreg knew they were Jewish, but they were never exposed (“Theodora”).
After freedom, Ljudevit realizing that Teodora and Zdravko’s parents had been killed, legally adopted the children (“Theodora”). Teodora remained with her uncle after Zdravko died of scarlet fever shortly after being adopted (“Theodora”). After keeping in touch for a year, Daniel returned to Switzerland, and the two married in 1958 (“Theodora”).
From Teodora’s experiences as a Holocaust survivor, I have learned a lot. The most interesting and important thing I learned all about the difficult times of the Holocaust. As if I was in their shoes, I learned how hard it was for the survivors, and for their families. The Jews were thought of as “too different,” so they were punished. Even though the Holocaust was a very hard time for Teodora and her family, she pulled through strong, and now she has lived a happy life, with her new family, and has an amazing story to
