Are people that believe really happier than non-believers? Do they have a greater since of wellbeing? These are a few of the questions that this paper will answer. First this paper with define and discuss the history of spirituality and religion. Second the paper will discuss how wellness is related to both spirituality and religion. Finally evidence will be provided that people that believe are happier than non-believers.
Spirituality is defined by Webster’s Meriam dictionary as the quality or state of being concerned with religion or religious matters: the quality or state of being spiritual. “Spirituality is more difficult to define than religion. It is a more popular expression today than religion, since many view the latter as divisive and associated with war, conflict, and fanaticism. Spirituality is considered more personal, something individuals define for themselves that is largely free of the rules, regulations, and responsibilities associated with religion. In fact, there is a growing group of individuals categorized as “spiritual-but not- religious” who deny any connection at all with religion and understand spirituality entirely in individualistic, secular humanistic terms.
