In the beginning of the Civil War, federalism and what type of federalism became a huge part of why the war started. The south and advocates on state’s right believed that States’ should have the legal right to make major decisions. State’s rights advocates also argued that States’ have more power over the federal government since they ratified the constitution to create a federal government. In Dual federalism the Federal government, also known as the National Government dealt with the foreign policy and national defense, while the state government dealt with economic regulations of their own states and criminal laws for so said state. The powers were divided, but not separated and was not similar to the separation of powers.
