Social Media can be a great tool to use in a hospital, however just like any company social media can become a huge risk. It is important that people using social media at work and at home understand the importance of being ethical while using social media. Social media is to chat, share photos, and other valuable information to our friends and family. However, using social media needs to be done in an appropriate way so that nobody gets emotionally or physically hurt. In the article, I researched I learned that nursing staff using social media to communicate with other nurses, other medical staff, and with their patients. In New Jersey, a law has been set in place so employees can be at ease knowing that an employer cannot ask for their social media passwords. Social media information is public, but privacy settings can be set to a certain extent. Even though privacy settings can be set, social media information is still easily available from anyone who has the right resources to hack information. This can cause for ethical, social, and political issues to be created. These types of concerns cannot be fixed unless appropriate action is taken. In today’s society, it can be hard for people to trust each other as social media can travel through many thousands of people and networking systems before it is stopped and forgotten about.
