Sara Ipatenco brings awareness to the causes of why low-income teens are more likely to become pregnant. Poverty is a huge contribution to teen pregnancy, and getting pregnant during the teen years makes it harder to break that cycle of poverty. Ipatenco address possibilities that cause teen pregnancies, such as lack of education, no funds for birth control, life situations, and considerations. Ipatenco article argues that teen parenthood is more likely in girls who come from families with certain life factors and family history. According to the National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy, teen pregnancy is more likely if a teen girl’s mother gave birth when she was a teen, if her parents weren’t married when she was born or if her mother didn’t graduate from high school or get a GED. Ipatenco also argue that many low-income teens get pregnant because they or unaware or don’t understand. With a lack of money for birth control, condoms, and other contraceptives; many teen girls will rely on the withdrawal or rhythm methods of preventing pregnancy, but these aren 't always effective, and girls can get pregnant while using them.
