A lot of user have the risk of lying in there profile. Over time online dating has been coming more popular these last couple of years. Many people like to lie in there profile to make themselves look better or to even mess with people heads, and thinking that someone else is talking too. But in related they are not even a real person. The show Catfish on MTV help user found out if the person they are talking too is real or not. In many cases on the show they found out that the user is not real, but in some cases they are. Many user lie about their information on their profile. “81% lie about their age, weight or height.” (Rothman) A study was done with male and women that used online dating, they found out that men lie more about the age they are. Women lie more about their height (Couch, Liamputtong, and Pitts). In one situation a guy had two profile that he used to find people online. One of his profile was to be in relationship, and the other one was, he wanted to hook up for sex with people (Couch, Liamputtong, and Pitts). He changed his age and even his profile picture. Many users have the risk of having people lie about themselves. Some user that use online dating sites, they will lie about what they look like. Some use a fake profile picture to have people think that’s it’s them.
