As Isaac Newton states, “For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.” These actions and reactions are events or choices that unknowingly connect us to our future. Our birthday is a great example in itself. We are brought into this world through a decision made by other humans in which we have no control over. As newborns begin their journey, every single one of their decisions in the moment affect their future. Some choices lead to positive paths, others to negative paths. Despite the kind of choices we make, our lives are intricate webs of little moments that are all connected together to make the big moments possible.

These birthdays begin as a thought, which is then decided on between two people. People are brought into this life based off of the decisions of others. In the book Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng, Celeste creates a story based on a family. Marilyn meets her husband, James Lee, early in the book. The moment she chose to speak with Lee, who was her college professor at the time, her life changed forever. Not only did she dramatically change her life, but the lives of her soon to be born kids as well. If Marilyn hadn’t spoken with James, the entire family wouldn’t be existent. Marilyn was not the only one to make impactful decisions. Nath made a choice on his own career path in life. Upon watching TV, Nath started falling in love with aeronautics. His choice to turn on the TV that day affected his future which consisted of studying aeronautics and Harvard University. The choices he made to better himself led him to the path he wanted for his future. This provided Nath with an escape. Lydia, on the other hand, had a different vision of an escape. Lydia’s plan started with a decision. The beginning to the end started at the dock. Nath pushed Lydia in, and from that decision alone, Lydia decided to make a promise to herself. Ever since the day Nath pushed her in, she wanted to prove to herself she could swim. When Lydia experienced her last few moments alive, she created a whole new set of promises. If Nath hadn’t pushed her into the lake earlier that year, Lydia would not have found herself sitting in the boat, ready to jump. Every single one of our decisions have a direct effect on our futures. Each experience connects us and propels us into future situations. The connections are so complex and so great that they are unknown until we live to see the situations unfold. Our lives are sewn together through each fiber connecting us to the finished
