In a town that has a large agricultural economy, Emory suffered a 12.5% decrease in population. In Grand Saline the population still fluctuated some, but there were both an increase and a decrease. From 1920 to 1930 the population took on a 17.8% increase in population heading into The Great Depression. This information seems to highlight that the population began to rise as Morton Salt started to make its imprint on the town. From 1930 to 1940 the population witnessed an 8.7% decrease in population. This is right around the time that most cotton farmers would be suffering there largest losses, and would begin to relocate to larger cities to find work. This event consisted up of a town gathering, food, music and other entertaining activities. This festival was a bright weekend for everyone in the town, because people from all over the county would come. The increased crowd would buy goods and food while they were in town, which helped fuel the local economy. Since the original festivals there was a long period in which the festival did not take place, but in 1974 it was brought back and named the Salt Festival. It has now been going for forty-one years straight and every year there is live music, a rodeo, and a larger crowd. It is another way that Morton Salt helped the economy during the time period and even today.
Good news for the town of Grand Saline is that Morton Salt had a private investigation done to discover just how much salt was in the dome. In the investigation the company was told that if every other mine in the world quit producing salt, the mine in Grand Saline would be able to supply the entire world for two years. It also said that the mine has enough salt to continue mining at the same pace that it is today for the next 20,000 years without the salt dome being completely exhausted. The results of this investigation ensured that the boost to the town economy from the salt mine will not go away any time
