Change is something that happens everyday and regardless if you need it or not. Change can cause havoc on many organizations and in our lives as well. There are always planned and unplanned changes with an organization. In Organizational Development, change refers to the strategy, structure and/or processes of an entire system. Change can be as simple as modifying a current program by extending it to 12 months or six months (Cummings and Worley, 2015). Planned change is a set of plans in an organization that are intentional. For example, a team building exercise is scheduled for each department and the intention is for everyone to learn something new about one another.

As I reflect on our reading, Cummings and Worley (2015) shared, “A change program aimed at modifying an organization’s strategy, for example, might focus on how an organization relates to a wider environment and on how those relationships can be improved” (Cummings and Worley, 2015). I have always loved my job and working with people. However, in 2008-2009 many of my clients were being laid off due to economic changes. These changes began to affect my earnings. Because those who would come in for weekly services could only afford monthly services or sometimes skipped a month of services. The market crashing and the result of job layoffs is an example of unplanned change. Due to me experiencing this unplanned change I decided to return to college, published two beauty business guides; Branding, Beauty and Beyond and Business, Beauty and Beyond. My intention was to not get caught in a web of uncertainty again. This planned change has been life changing for family and myself. Therefore, I have experienced unplanned change and planned change personally. However, there are many reasons or factors we can be affected personally and professionally from unplanned change. Returning to college has afforded many planned opportunities. Due to my planned change of earning a college degree has opened many doors for me. Once I could not apply for certain jobs because I did have a degree or had not completed at least 60 credit hours.
