The Devil In Tom Walker The Masque Of The Red Death

How far would you go for love? Happiness? Fame?. The pieces of literature I will be analysing for this essay are “The Monkeys Paw”, “The Devil in Tom Walker”, and “The Masque of the Red Death”. I believe that in all romantic literature works, the protagonists has an urge or pull to do something, but gets warned a couple times before something bad happens to stop to walk away. The protagonists doesn’t listen and has to face the consequences(With the exception of “The Monkey's Paw”) The first example, “The Monkey's Paw”, The protagonist -Mr. White and his family- have a guest come and visit them. The guest was an ex-sergeant who retired from the military. He is fiddling with a doohickey. In “The Devil in Tom Walker” Tom takes a shortcut home one day and runs into a swamp. The swamp is very supernatural and Tom runs into the devil. There are a lot of trees there that strong on the outside but are all dead on the inside. They also have peoples names on them. This warns the reader and tom that something weird is going on and he should leave. Then the devil tries to make a bargain with Tom and Tom talks to his wife about it. His wife says he should talk the offer, so because of that he doesn't. His wife then tries to take the bargain with the devil, but the devil kills her and leaves her heart and liver in her apron.
