The topic of sexual education has been one of debate for an extended amount of time, with opinions varying from accepting the idea of educating children on sexual topics, to the opposite.. Regardless of which opinions mattered more, there has undoubtedly been major societal changes in the views of sexual education, as well as opinions on what parents should consider “appropriate” for children; the Ontario sexual education curriculum has altered its way of educating, choosing to promote knowledge and acceptance of many human factors- including sexuality. As well, they believe that teaching children about the natural occurrence of masturbation will “encourage” them to perform sexual self-acts. Furthermore, the arguments are also against even mentioning the acts of oral and anal sex, pertaining to the spread of disease and infections- which, once again, is inappropriate. As well, the reformed curriculum pro-sex groups, pro-abortion groups, and Queer Ontario- all groups that promote equality and healthy sexual lives. In the end, most -if not all- the cons that are noted against the modern sex-ed curriculum are based on opinions and protest from religious parents, and those who fear change.

Changes- Pros

The main “pros” of the revised sex education curriculum for Ontario are that they promote equality, teach children about their bodies, normalize the differences between humans, and allow children to explore their options in a not-so-heteronormative world.

Many of the misinformed masses believe that the newer curriculum is “explicit” due to the “teachings” of oral sex, anal sex, and masturbation, as well as other factors.
