The Cross Symbol of Hope

When the people of God are face with challenges we do so knowing that we are

people of hope. Why, because of the work that Christ did on the cross. He rose to die

no more. He has taken us into the mystery and the grace of this life that sprang up from

death. If we, like Him encounter and accept suffering in our discipleship, we will move

without awkwardness among others who suffer. We are a people of hope and we must

take it to the world, that needs hope.

There is no failure the Lord’s love cannot reverse, no humiliation He cannot exchange

for blessing, no anger He cannot dissolve, and no problem He cannot change to praise.

All our humiliations, anger and problems are swallowed up in Jesus’s victory on the

cross. He has nothing but gifts to offer. It remains only for us to find how even the cross

can be borne as a gift of hope that bears fruit.

“Because of the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, of which you heard before the word of the truth of the gospel. Which has come to you as it has also in all the world, and is bringing forth fruit, as it is also among you since the day you heard and knew the grace of God in truth” Colossians 1:5-6 (NKJV).

1Hope is the third member of the triad and is introduced as the basis of faith and love (the

faith and love that spring from the hope). This message of hope, which is such a vital
