Picture this: You’re watching a movie that takes place in Africa. The narrator says, “Look at those zebras!” but the camera zooms in on elephants. It would be confusing and wouldn’t make sense, right? So why is it that movies do the same thing with their actors? Fwor as long as movies have been produced, there has been much controversy with the casting choices. The directors often cast actors and actresses who are white for roles meant for people of color. Edward Zo auditioned to get the role as Light Yamagi in the Netflix movie, Death Note, but was told he could not get the role because he was “too Asian.” Many people’s first reaction to this might be, “How can someone be too much of his or her race?” It simply makes no sense at all.
