Throughout history, society has neglected and lashed out against those who are different and those who do not fit into the social norms. Out of their fear for the unknown, many groups are discriminated and stripped of their rights. Out of these groups, the LGBTQIA community has been a major victim, posing many hardships for couples of the same sex. This paper will be investigating the impact of the challenges same-sex couples face in their relationship. These challenges are defined as disputing the validity of something, same-sex marriages referring to marriage between partners of the same sex, and relationships are described as the way in which the two people in the marriage are connected. Same-sex couples are challenged by religion, family acceptance and parenting, and the legalization of same-sex marriage, each factor effecting the relationship in a positive or negative way. By assessing the impact of these challenges, prospective LGBTQIA parents are able to generate methods of overcoming these hardships, and identify with the changing face of the family.
Perception is a fickle concept that differs greatly between individuals, leading up to a multitude different interpretations that people often feel very strongly about. Religion is no exception to this, and has always played an enormous role in one’s values and morals.
