School is a major contributing factor in the surfacing of depression in adolescents. Dunn, Milliren, Evans, Subramanian, and Richmond(2015) studied the effects of school and neighborhood on the risk of depression in adolescents. They examined an experiment in their article “Disentangling the relative influence of schools and neighborhoods on adolescents ' risk for depressive symptoms” which showed school and neighborhood effects on the risk of depression in adolescents.This article concluded that school environments have a significant potential to affect the mental health of adolescent. This article, “Adolescent depression: Important Facts that Matter,” discusses the variables of adolescents who are known to show signs of depression over the general population of adolescents. The study concluded that teenagers in their 15 to 16 years, females, and smokers showed a significant increase in depression than those of a younger age(p. 69). This article also discussed the importance of nursing on an adolescent’s mental health in reducing the risk of depression. In the article adolescents who smoke and drink alcohol tend to have a significant increase in depressive symptoms.
