Many teenagers and young adults say the legal age should be lowered, but if it is lowered there will be an increase in adolescent drinking, depression, and suicide. By drinking alcohol in massive amounts it becomes extremely easy to have depressive episodes. Depression is a common but serious mood disorder. It causes severe symptoms that affect how someone feels, thinks, and handles daily actions. Most forms of depression are due to unique circumstances that have happened recently, like the loss of a family, a relationship, a divorce, or job loss. Well, the obvious response to this is to drink to chase the blues away, but when one drinks to take the edge off it can cause dependency, and when the alcohol is removed from their life all the feelings that were suppressed can come rushing back. If this happens it's not unlikely for someone to revert back to alcohol or commit suicide.
I believe that depression is a serious disease, and a lot of people think that as well, but there is no way to stop a depressed person from drinking. While it’s ill-advised by doctors it won't stop them from drinking. A lot of the research I did claim that alcohol and depression have no connection, but it's not uncommon to see an alcoholic with depression, or a suicidal person consuming alcohol. Personally, I do think that alcohol and depression go hand in hand because there are successful ways to handle depression, but Americans tend to look for easy and cheap
