The CSI Effect is a plague to the CJ System. As a police chief of your local department, what would you tell your officers to do/not do to combat this epidemic? What information could you forward to the media?…
ROLE OF THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE PROFESSIONAL Criminal justice professional field is wide with differing responsibilities and roles allocated by position and the level of an officer in the criminal justice department. These criminal justice professionals assume/play a key part in guaranteeing law and order to the citizens. This paper outlines the key individual and societal needs that necessitate the roles and responsibilities of a criminal justice professional and their role in serving these needs. Societal Needs…
According to an NPR article, “many prosecutors complain that shows like CSI make their job harder, as jurors demand ultra-high-tech tests to convict suspects” (Rath). Jurors who have watched as little as one episode of a forensic drama expect investigators to reach the conclusion of any crime in an hour-long timespan—including commercials. However, when asked about the “CSI Effect”, Anthony Zuiker, the creator of the CSI franchise, believes that this idea is ridiculous. He…
The ‘CSI effect’ is the effect famous tv shows based on crime have on people who watch it. For example shows like CSI and law order make people think everything is accurate with forensic evidence. These shows have made people more interested in forensic science work fields. It also has helped draw more students into studying these subjects. Now because of the shows jurors are more interested into the evidence side of the trials.…
Hello everyone, I am researcher John Williams. Today I want to talk to you all about the CSI Effect. I will: • Give you a definition of CSI effect and describe what sort of scientific evidence jurors assume to see. • Describe whether the CSI effect is narrowed to people who exactly look at forensic shows. • Describe whether the District Attorney should be granted permission to ask possible jurors about their TV habits.…
The unique show did not over play the discipline in the role. Dexter Morgan joined the investigators to the violent crime scenes to analyze bloodstains at the location. His character analyzed blood in the laboratory to find a match in the FBI database and would reconstruct a bloodstain pattern to show where a weapon had entered and exited the victim. The show brought a lot of interest to the Bloodstain Pattern Analysis…
This show among many others has taught many students the incorrect procedures within criminal justice field. Due to this, professor that teach crime analysis have found that they must help students unlearn what they have witness from television because it displays incorrect information (Neubauer & Fradella, 2014). In addition, now jurors wants more forensic evidence. Watching shows like CIS, has had an influence on way the jurors demand for more DNA analysis. In my opinion, I think that these shows does not depict the reality of policing or prosecution.…
The phenomenon known as 'the CSI Effect' has gained significant momentum due to the ever increasing TV shows such as CSI, Cold Case, Law and Order, Criminal Minds, and the like. This effect suggests that the dramatization of forensic science, crime, and legal proceedings in these 'ripped from the headlines', ‘reality-based' television dramas have "created unrealistic expectations of forensic science (Forensic Science Second Edition, Richard Saferstine: pg. 3)." In an article called The 'CSI Effect’: Does It Really Exist? written by Donald Shelton, he along with Gregg Barak and Young Kim, explore the many claims "that watching television programs like CSI has caused jurors to wrongfully acquit guilty defendants," and conduct research to determine…
When he first began taking college level classes as a Junior in high school, it felt as if the world was crashing down on him. In order to stay on top of everything, he stuck to his guns in doing what he knew was right. He was raised to believe in strong morals and ethics, which helped him to succeed. The key to being successful for anyone, in anything they do is having a solid understanding of ethics and morals. These concepts will help anyone get ahead in life and be the best they can be.…
Forensic investigation not only aids to the detection of criminals and their prosecution, it is also a huge deterrent for committing a criminal act due to the sophistication and thorough analysis of the smallest amount of DNA. This knowledge is widely publicised through popular drama television shows such as "Crime Scene Investigation". But, since the privatisation of Britons state-run forensics science services in 2012 which was deemed the best in the world, the police have lost a great asset to secure convictions and manage crime. Peachey (2015) reports spending has been cut by £20 million on forensic examinations over the last two years, with the possibility of a miscarriage of justice as there is a reduction in the analysing of DNA samples…
Is it possible to reduce crime rates by raising the education of potential criminals? We go to college to get a better education. A better education leads to a better job, which leads to more money. This is the life that people follow and live by in the world today. But little is known about the correlation between schooling and criminal behavior.…
In the United States of America, its citizens would like to believe that the rule of law applies to everyone equally; however, current events create questions in regard to this theory. Democratic Presidential Candidate Hillary Clinton’s lies have far out-shadowed those of her contenders; however, her lies are so often contextualized, excused, and forgotten because of who she is and the purpose her lying supposedly serves. The FBI and the Justice Department have given her a pass on crimes that would land anyone else in prison; in fact, Lt. General Ralph Peters said that, “If I would have done half of what we know Hillary Clinton has done, I’d be on my way to Leavenworth … she is a criminal” (RS, 2015). Apparently, the rule of law does not apply to those who are politically connected to the present administration.…
I am majoring in criminal justice and psychology. Criminal justice is related to food because food can be used to poison and kill people as well as it is what every average human consumes on a daily basis. If one has a poor or unhealthy background it can be related to food which could possible lead a person to commit a crime. Psychology can be related to food because depending on what and how much you eat can affect how you feel about yourself which can affect a person's thinking and could cause them to make rash decisions. Fast food was apart of my childhood growing up quite frequently if my family was busy with swimming, my brothers Boy Scouts, baseball, dance, choir, etc.…
I believe the theory is important in the criminal justice field because it presents information in detecting why a crime occurs and it gives a different perspective. When that information is processed, a plan could be executed to determine how to control or create a plan without incorporating one's opinion or beliefs. For instance, I have noticed in the last few years, that the prison system is focused on rehabilitating the offender by creating an opportunity for them to obtain their GED and some to further their education. Also, some have been giving the chance to go back into society to work with the company to gain a skill to prepare them to gain employment once they return back to their community. In doing so, the theory gives some insight…
Being a CSI you are held to a high standard of honesty. One properly must follow all procedures, as well as accurately handling and processing evidence. While in most jobs one is held to a high standard, this one is especially important because one could improperly provide incorrect evidence, which could convict the wrong person of the crime (Crime Scene Investigator Career…
