The crime show drama was written about a fictional police division based out of sunny Miami, Florida. The show had a charming lead character named Dexter Morgan who lived a double life. During the day, his primary job was a Bloodstain Pattern Analyst who worked in the laboratory. At night, he indulged into his passion as a serial killer who eliminated the world of horrible people. Many viewers enjoyed his double life of pursuing justice, even with his dark side. The unique show did not over play the discipline in the role. Dexter Morgan joined the investigators to the violent crime scenes to analyze bloodstains at the location. His character analyzed blood in the laboratory to find a match in the FBI database and would reconstruct a bloodstain pattern to show where a weapon had entered and exited the victim. This discipline is not for everyone; it has a rigorous degree plan. Basic and advanced courses are offered and requirements vary depending on the employer. The ability to look at blood is a minimum. A Hemophobic person would not do well in this line of work. A high level of education and understanding in one or all areas of biology, chemistry and or physics will provide a great base level to becoming a Bloodstain Pattern Analyst. A background in one or all of the three will help with the discipline courses offered. Bloodstain Pattern Analysis certification is offered. The certification test is broken into four categories. “Written Examination that covers a wide scope of required abilities from terminology to the history of the field, Pattern Identification, Analysis Portion, and lastly Area of Convergence and Area of Area of Origin Calculations” (International Association of Identification). “It is highly encouraged for people trying to advance in this field have practiced in extensive laboratory recreations.
