The Blame In Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet

Romeo and Juliet is a book full of tragedy, especially when said two die. There are so many people that could have been blamed for the unfortunate situation. The blame can be layed on multiple characters. However, Some people say it’s Romeo’s fault, some people say it’s the nurses fault-even Juliet’s fault. I personally lay the blame on the Friar Laurence, Romeo, and the families in general. Friar Laurence contains most of the blame. This is proven because he helped Juliet and Romeo get married without either of their families consent. His hastiness created a lot of issues in the story. He says: “These violent delights have violent ends and in their triumph die, like fire and powder, Which, as they kiss, consume.” He is saying that Juliet and Romeo’s marriage could heal the families struggles. However, the result of this proved that this idea was not thought out well. Throughout the story, the Friar kept making these risky, not thought out plans. One of these plans was the fatal one, the biggest mistake yet: giving Juliet the poison. In Act 4 scene 1, the friar says to Juliet: “Hold, daughter. If they could’ve been more aware and more accepting, this would have not happen. Romeo and Juliet were two young kids who were lost in love and the bickering families made it a more confusing time for them. Juliet mostly wanted to take her life because her father was forcing her to marry Paris against her will. “O, bid me leap, rather than marry Paris…”. Her father’s decision to force her to marry this boy caused her great dread and sorrow. Had he listened to her, had he be more accepting and less strict- she might have been spared. This all goes for Romeo as well, since he killed himself for Juliet. If only the families could have paused their quarrel for a brief moment, just to listen to their children, the tragedy could have been
