Sometimes people in this world experience very traumatic experiences that lead them to suffering and pain in the physical world which could result in suffering pain or being paralyzed just in the case of Joni who was so full of life until she fractured her vertebrae in a horrifying accident swimming with friends. This left her being a quadriplegic and she went into depression even thinking about suicide. In this case, we will review the Christian worldview on euthanasia we will explore one’s ethical dilemma, core beliefs, resolution, and evaluation on how one come to terms with euthanasia.
Ethical Dilemma
Since Joni is paralyzed and not able to enjoy things in life such as swimming or even something simple as taking a walk she can be confronted with either ending her life by suicide in which she could take pills, or she disconnect some of the machines that help her breath. There is a reason why God allowed this to occur to her as she could be a motivational speaker to encourage one to keep going despite their circumstances. Joni can continue with her life and live a purposeful life which lead to an ethical life. John 8:12 states, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (Lecture 7). This verse can remind Joni that despite her circumstance her on earth she will gain eternal life by trusting and loving him. Also, we must understand that life is a gift from God and we must not take our own life as what is commanded of us in “the fifth commandment ‘Thou shalt not kill’ forbids making an end to somebody’s life.” (Liegeois, p. 74).
