Julianna Snow Character Analysis

Exemplified Love Life is a series of extraordinary and terrible chances of fate. One may never suffer a disease, illness or disability while others may face heart-wrenching issues which test their character and determination. All parents have an expectation of a perfect child, without complications, without illness, yet there are countless children born sick and disabled. While life doesn’t always turn out the way it’s expected, it’s the manner in which individuals choose to face the unfortunate challenges which defines who he or she is. This is best exemplified in the fictional story of Christopher Boone and the genuine story of Julianna Snow. Julianna Snow was born a seemingly healthy baby without any sign of disease or illness. However, in her second year of life, she was diagnosed with a severe form of Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease which causes progressive loss of muscle. In Snow’s case, the intercostal muscles of the chest were severely deteriorated meaning that she was unable to breathe properly or cope with lung infections. Throughout her childhood, she was constantly hospitalized to treat infections, colds and to assist her breathing. By age four, Julianna’s doctors indicated that the next time she became ill, they would have a small chance of saving her life; if they did manage to prevent her death, she would likely live the rest of her life in a comma. Armed with that information her parents chose to permit Julianna to decide how she wanted to die.
