Other problems include a lengthy turnover that takes time away from patient care, staff confusion, and strained nursing relationships. Potential intervention includes changing shift turnover process into face-to-face communication instead of audiotape to facilitate information transfer and better shift turnover experience for nurses. The use of a communication tool such as an SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment and Recommendation) provides an overview of the patient without omitting crucial information in this day and age when a myriad of diagnoses is a common scenario (Motacki & Burke, 2011). Knowing how to search, analyze and apply evidence-based research into the work setting is critical in achieving positive outcomes. A number of researches support face-to-face reporting as best practice in shift turnover process. Problems arising from audiotaped recording prompted the author to assess the need for change. Internal data was collected and compared with external data. The identified problem was then linked with an intervention, followed by search for evidence supporting the potential change process. The change process will then be implemented, evaluated for its effectiveness and if desired outcomes are established, actions will be taken to fully integrate face-to-face reporting in the
