The article on Bloomberg, journalists Margaret Talev and Michael Dorning explained about Obama’s new approach on some policy decisions with the new party majority, the Republicans. The authors explained that President Obama stated to the press that quote, “Congress will pass some bills I cannot sign…take some actions that…Congress will not like… That’s how our democracy works." The authors focused on the topics of policies like Immigration, Authorization for use of military force (AUMF), Budget, Tax breaks, Keystone Pipeline, Nominations, and the Attorney general. First, is the immigration. The immigration issue came up last year, when the Democratic majority Senate proposed a bill to fix the Immigration law, but the House denied the bill. Although Obama wanted to take action, but he had to wait until elections were over. He is determined to use his executive powers to over Congress in order to control the leak. But an incumbent Louisiana senator opposes the idea of executive order on immigration. Next is the powers of authorizing use of military forces (AUMF). According the journalists, there are “three authorizations in question”. First, is the repeal of a “2002 authorization of military force in Iraq for the war that ended in 2011”, next is Congress passing a new AUMF against ISIS in Syria and Iraq, and lastly is the 2001 AUMF passed after 9/11 on the “war on terrorism”.
