Reflecting on my midterm progress in English 102, I realize all rhetorical modes need to be employed to have an effective final product. My confidence in my ability to develop and express a clear message to the reader has grown exponentially since English 101. Our initial exploratory writings, Diagnostic Essay and Editorial Analysis, provided me an opportunity to conduct an editorial review on other journalists’ works. Since these assignments, I am now equipped to conduct editorial reviews my own written works allowing for efficient revisions of essays to the professional level.
The class conferences and especially peer-review sessions greatly assist in identifying composition and rhetorical methods I have accomplished and others I strive to conquer at the professional level. I meticulously conduct an extensive research on my topics to provide professional and convincing evidence in support of my argument. Throughout the year, I have encountered challenges when writing scene analyses. At the beginning of the year, I frequently overlooked details or I failed to thoroughly analyze a passage. In my analysis of Scott Russell Sanders’s essay “Under the Influence,” I did not closely analyze the text and I repeatedly cited long quotes without any in-depth analysis. In my paragraphs analyzing this text, I mostly summarized the meaning of the text and I failed to demonstrate the importance of the lines that I cited. As the year progressed, I met with KP several times so that I would understand how I could improve my analyses.…

To my esteemed English teacher, By writing you this letter, I hope to demonstrate my growth throughout the year and my final mastery of the course’s content. During the revision of the synthesis, I mostly adjusted the shape of the piece; grammar and syntax needed to be fixed in many passages in order to provide a clearer explanation of my ideas. Nevertheless, the rhetorical analysis needed further labor on the content; precisely, the explanation of the author’s use of a certain rhetorical device to achieve his purpose needed to be more detailed. I wrote the both pieces keeping in mind that my audience would be extremely educated upon English language and composition.…

Among the aspects of my writing I have improved, the best strives are seen within my my counter arguments and overall strength and coherency of my papers. To begin, when looking at a paper I wrote in August on necessity of first drafts, there were large gaps in my elaboration, bringing concerns as to whether I was arguing and proving a point or merely summarizing what Lamott, the author of the article, originally said.
