President Barack Obama signed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) into law on March 23, 2010, which is also referred to as Federal Health Care Reform. The scope of PPACA is so broad that it will be years before it’s provisions are fully implemented and its ramifications are fully understood (Legislative Analyst’s Office, 2010). The Affordable Care Act is also known as Obamacare, which creates a series of Medicare reforms that will generate billion of dollars in saving for Medicare and this in turn will strengthen the care that Medicare beneficiaries receive. The new law also favors the beneficiaries with new benefits and services to seniors to keep them healthy. It also includes provisions that will improve the quality of care, cost of services, develop and promote new models of care delivery, modernize the current health system and most importantly fight waste, fraud, and abuse (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services [CMS], 2010).
American healthcare system has been growing at an unsustainable rate with many Americans finding themselves dropped out from coverage due to high cost of health care. If these healthcare crises were not addressed at proper time, the country could have bankrupted incrementally and exponentially year after year.
