John Mcwhorter claims that texting is not writing because writing is more formal. Talking, however, is more loose and casual which is why texting is claimed to be more like talking or a form of speech. John Mcwhorter says, “When people are speaking casually, we tend to speak in word packets of 7-10 words.” Back then, people use to talk like they wrote, but oddly, they were never able to write like they talked. “ If you could speak like writing, then logically, it follows that you might also want to sometimes write like you talk. The problem was the material mechanical wise was harder back in the day.” Even though they couldn’t write like they spoke, John Mcwhorter says, “The logical theory of writing is, If humanity lasted for about 24 hours, then writing would only come along at 11:07pm.” The development of writing in any language always came after the language was formed.
