The first readings, read in the beginning of the ceremony, were scriptures taken from The Bible. They were read aloud in Hebrew together by the rabbi and the other members. The first One was taken from Micah 7:18-20. It is asking God once again for his love and forgiveness, and and as believers they know he will forgive their sins and cast them into the depths of the sea. The second reading was from Isaiah 11:9. This is acknowledging that God has an abundance of strength and power. The third verse, Amos 5:24, is about the Justice and righteousness. While we were throwing the bread in the river we were reading from the program. The reading was about casting away their sins from the past year, cleansing them for the New Year. They are confessing for not doing what is right, asking for forgiveness, so they could start the year fresh.
