The reading from this week’s internet activity hit somewhat close to home with me. As I browsed through the different headlines to see which one I would write about more specifically, I stopped immediately when I saw anxiety. Anxiety is an illness that I know of more than a regular person would know. It is a disorder that hurts not only the one diagnosed, but also the people that are close to them. When reading this passage, I was surprised to see how many people have this illness, how badly the symptoms can be, and the different types of anxiety that there are. The great population of people with anxiety was amazing to see. Being that the disease takes up 16 percent of the population is pretty impressive in itself. That number may not seem so small, but when the math is done out that number turns out to be just over 51 million people in the United States alone. Now, this is intriguing to see for several reasons. It causes many questions to come up. For example, why are there so many people and what is causing the great amount of people with anxiety disorders? I would think that with the advancement of medical technology, this number would go down. It would be interesting to find out if this number is the same as other countries’ statistics. I am willing to bet that there are more cases here than there are in some other places. But, when one gets to thinking about the amount of people that they know that show the symptoms of anxiety, it is not that great of a surprise to…
