Super Food Observation

Improved Essays
I went to visit these two stores on a Wednesday when I got off work between 5pm to 7pm. The two grocery stores I chose was:
Super Foods: low end
Earth Fare: high end
I stay in a small city in Alabama, where the population is major over crowed. Just like any other city, the city is split into different selection like; North, East, South, West. From the luxury neighborhoods to the suburbs, to the nice neighborhoods to the “OK” neighborhoods to the low end neighborhoods.
Super Foods is located, I would say at the low end or an ok neighborhood. The houses in that area are on the low end in purchasing. There’s is no attractions or anything to do in that neighborhood or area. So, I can see why Super Foods would thrive in the location they are in.

A Rhetorical Analysis on “Suburb or Nothing” in the Memphis Flyer What should the relationship be between the suburbs and the city? The very small editorial in the Memphis Flyer gives somewhat efficient details on the term “Suburb of Nothing” originated and quoted by Mayor Mick Cornett. The writer of the article in the Commercial Appeal’s, “Suburb of Nothing”, effectively argues his/her point via the use of organization, formal tone and appeals to authority. Doing so, the writer gives history, use of words like “Summons” (in quotation in his/her own words) to illustrate a dire need of attention, and uses statistics and citations when appealing to authority such as a political magazine.…

Michael Pollan's piece “Big Food Strikes Back” in October 9, 2016 The New York Times Magazine begins with critique of a lack of the discussion about food system during 2008 U.S. presidential campaigns. Nevertheless, the food topic—being multi-dimensional—is inevitably a part of a larger, and more discussed, themes such as public health, climate change, and nation's' energy requirements, to name a few. Furthermore, the author in this article pinpoints the U.S. food systems' problems. The production of monocrops, which are subsidized by the government, result in high emissivity of the greenhouse gasses and have shown a negative impact on public health and ecology.…

The Correlation Between Health and Diet & How Our Surroundings Have an Impact Mary Maxfield, author of the article Food as Thought: Resisting the Moralization of Eating and graduate of Fontbonne University, advocates the neutrality and meaninglessness of moral labels on the food we consume. Mary complicates matters further as she writes, “When we attempt to rise above our animalistic nature through the moralization of food, we unnecessarily complicate the practice of eating,” (Maxfield, p. 444). In making this comment, she urges us to comprehend that our knowledge of foods considered healthy should not be founded by customs, but rather by scientific evidence. My attitude towards the issue that there is no relationship between diets and health…

The two neighborhoods that I will be comparing and contrasting will be the Dolton neighborhood and the west side neighborhood and it is K town. The Dolton neighborhood is quiet and it is a small little city. The west side neighborhood is kind of bad because I used to live over there and from the looks of it, it got worse like more killing on the west side k town area. The dolton area is more secure with police officers who are always int he area 24/7 all day everyday. Both neighborhoods are different because they are 45 mins away from each other.…

Research has shown that for more than 50 years now, a drastic change in the population transitioning from cities to the suburbs has been occurring. After 1950, this movement originally gained momentum and become the leading demographic style for nearly all-crucial U.S. metropolitan areas. This migration has pushed many more Americans to live in the suburbs now than any other location in the states. Today, a good amount of middle-class African Americans have moved out to the suburbs but the most common people who branch out there consist of upper-middle-class, middle-class, and working-class white people. Class and race separation steady growing more due to this white flight procedure.…

Neighborhood Comparison While the identity of people used to be assigned it is now something that you make yourself or select (Howard). I chose two neighborhoods that I believe would differ greatly in income levels and also would differ a little bit in race. I thought it would be extremely interesting if I was to observe a multitude of extreme differences in these two neighborhoods due to the fact that they are less than a mile apart from each other. I already had some sort of knowledge of the two neighborhoods.…

Overall, the neighborhoods I have chosen; Bedford Stuyvesant and Borough Park are similar in size, income, occupational level, and crime rates. In my opinion these two neighborhoods are similar in many aspects that I never thought were true due to my own understandings. In class we have discussed and read many readings about different neighborhoods and the reason they are in poverty due to the race of the majority. Since Borough Park is a predominantly white neighborhood I thought it would be a great neighborhood with a huge income being obtained by families and crime rates to be little to none. Compared to Bedford Stuyvesant these two neighborhoods are not so much different like I thought.…

Citizens need to report crimes that occur, so that the police can make sure the neighborhood is safe. This variable will make community policing hard due to the police do not know what crime is happening. The people in the community have to speak up against crime, but some people are fearful of reporting crime.…

CCJ 6638: Communities & Crime Mariel Snouffer Topic 2: The Origins and Legacies of the Urban Crisis Contrary to the belief that anyone that works hard enough will be rewarded, “real life” is not necessarily the “American Dream” that everyone thinks. Neighborhoods do indeed matter for individual outcomes both independently and beyond individual characteristics. There are many long term impacts on the intergenerational transmission of poverty and wealth; and most certainly crossing racial and ethnic lines. The “American Dream” is the idea that is the primary story of American Immigration; the proposal that steered much of the thrust for civil rights. It is also a suggestion that has been undeviating with the American’s perception of impartial and just treatment, as long as there is a universal option for advancement.…

The topic that is widely discussed in big cities is gentrification. When my peers were asked, what they defined gentrification as, they described it as “rich people coming into cheaper neighborhoods.” According to their definition, gentrification has not been a positive effect to the majority, the lower classes. Gentrification is the occurrence when wealthy classes come into affordable neighborhood. As a result, this usually raises prices as store and homeowners see an opportunity to gain more money.…
