A Professor at a University named Michael Marlow conducted research on the government intervention in people’s lives and their eating habits. He gives great attributes that by the government intervening in our everyday lives will not solve or fix the obesity problems today.

“It is clear the United States is facing a rising obesity problem. But the challenge remains: We have yet to determine a successful way to tackle it. According to the National Center for Health Statistics (Links to an external site.), the prevalence of obesity among adults more than doubled from 13.4 percent in 1960 to 34.3 percent in 2008. A new report released this month (Links to an external site.) by the American Journal of Preventive Medicine predicts that by 2030,

Yes, I know that it can be beneficial and lower the obesity and health problems, but I feel banning and restricting sugary drinks and sodas is taking away our rights. People should have the right to choose to drink and eat what we want. I feel it is our responsibility to monitor and limit the amount of sugary drinks and sodas we consume. It is not the government to tell us what we can and cannot consume. I am aware that sugary drinks and sodas cause obesity and health problems etc. and that it will lower obesity in America. As one of my classmates mentioned there should be steps on how the information is provided and our people need to be educated on the high rates of obesity and health factors contributed to sugary drinks. I feel as though we need to have self-control and that certain people lack self-control when it comes to overly indulging in junk food, sugary drinks, and sodas. The media need to advertise healthy things instead of junk food and sodas that are tempting and appealing. This causes people to be more evoked to the junk and unhealthy stuff they see. It puzzles me to this day why a salad or something healthy is an arm and a leg versus a burger that can be a dollar at a fast food restaurant. Maybe if we educate kids and adolescents about the obesity rate and health problems in America that is leading to death by the sugary drinks, fast food, and junk that is out there; it will decrease the rate of obesity etc… I stand firm on educating people about healthy food, exercise, and about the health factors related to obesity from indulging in junk food and sugary drinks. I believe people still are going to live an unhealthy lifestyle and eat/drink what they want no matter if the government intervenes or not. The media should

Sugary Drink Ban Imagine sipping on an XL slurpie that’s from your favorite store and you drink everyday, but one day you see that now the drink you love is no longer available and gone forever! Next, I think the ban on sugary drinks is wrong because you can’t just blame only sugary drinks for causing obesity there is other factors too, and they would also be infringing on our rights. It doesn’t say anywhere in the constitution that you can only have a certain amount of sugary drinks or that your choice is limited. Not only that but the constitution says that you have the right to like in the text it says “government controls that infringe on individual choice”.…

Many say that problems caused by sugary drinks are too serious for us to not do anything and even is this measure would just teach us portion control it is worthwhile doing it. In her article “Why Soda Ban Will Work In Fight Against Obesity?” Nadia Arumugam claims that we have become so accustomed to instant gratification and our set of mind is focused on “the bigger the better” that a restriction like the soda ban will at least help us learn to say “No”. The article that I read regarding spending to save on obesity indicate that over the past 30 years, the reputation of obesity and its interconnected diseases in the Unites States has increased sharply. Ever since the early 1970s, the segment of children ages six to nineteen has been categorized as being overweight has been more than triplicated, from 5 % to 17%, even though the segment of adults categorized as overweight or plump beginning 1/2 to 2/3 of the population. Everybody comes to an understanding that the United States has experienced an exceptional heaviness widespread in the past 30 years in America. In excess of the same period, the number of fast food restaurants has doubled.…
